My first bit of advice is to stay away from “resume paper”.

Visit any office supply store and you will see an entire section dedicated to resume paper, envelopes, and folders.  None of this is necessary nor will it help you look extra special. Paper with parchment or linen finishes are outmoded and expensive.  Save your money and find slightly heavier letter-sized paper with a plain, smooth finish.

How Do I Find the Right Type of Paper?

Visit your local office supply, copy, or printing store and ask them to show you high quality paper slightly heavier than standard printer/copier paper.  You can also take it a step further and ask that they print a sample document for you to get a better idea of how the document will be presented with print.
